Every morning is a tough battle. When the alarm rings, I instinctively reach out to hit snooze, wrap myself tightly in the blanket, thinking "just five more minutes." Those five minutes often turn into thirty, and when I open my eyes again and see the time on my phone, I'm instantly awake — oh no, I'm going to be late again! Rushing through washing up, changing clothes, and applying makeup, leaving home with wet hair and completely skipping breakfast. I've been through this countless times, silently vowing each time that I'll wake up early tomorrow, only to repeat the same pattern the next day.

After countless instances of being late and self-reproach, I finally found a super practical solution: placing the alarm clock far from the bed. Now, I charge my phone on the desk, about three meters away from my bed. This way, when the alarm goes off in the morning, I have to crawl out of my warm blanket and walk barefoot to the desk to turn off that "piercing" alarm. By the time I reach the desk, not only have my feet touched the cold floor making me more alert, but the walking distance has also started to wake up my body. Especially in winter, once I leave the warmth of the bed, I'm less likely to want to crawl back in.

This method helped me break my habit of oversleeping, and now I can maintain a regular sleep schedule. Moreover, I've discovered there are so many benefits to waking up early. For instance, I can finally enjoy breakfast leisurely instead of wolfing it down on the subway; I can take my time with skincare and makeup without worrying about running out of time; I can even catch up on news and learn about what's happening in the world. Most importantly, I no longer have to worry about being late, which feels absolutely amazing!

Evening Preparation

As the saying goes, "A dull knife makes hard work," and this couldn't be more applicable to morning preparation. After such a long period of exploration, I've developed a complete evening preparation routine, and these small habits have significantly improved my quality of life.

Now, I spend 15 minutes every night before bed preparing everything I'll need for the next day. First is outfit planning: I check the weather forecast and schedule for the next day to choose appropriate clothes. I match tops, pants, and jackets, along with corresponding bags and accessories, and hang everything on hangers. This way, I won't have decision paralysis in front of my closet in the morning, nor worry about finding wrinkled or dirty clothes at the last minute.

Organizing my bag is also important. I check if everything is complete: wallet, earphones, power bank, tissues, lipstick, mirror... Sometimes I need to prepare items for special occasions, like gym clothes and water bottles for workout days, or notebooks and folders for meetings. Checking all these things means I won't be scrambling to find items the next day.

What I'm most proud of is my "smart coffee time." Every night, I clean the coffee maker, fill it with water, add coffee grounds, and set the timer. This way, at 6:30 the next morning, the coffee maker starts automatically. When I finish washing up and come out of the bathroom, the whole room is filled with the rich aroma of coffee - it's absolute bliss!

To make evening preparation more organized, I created a checklist and posted it by my bed. It lists all items that need to be prepared: check weather, prepare clothes, organize bag, set up coffee maker, charge devices, prepare important documents, etc. I check off each item as I complete it, so nothing gets forgotten. Although these preparations might take up some pre-bedtime minutes, it's totally worth it knowing I can start the next day without rushing.

Storage Tips

Home organization is definitely an art, and I've learned this the hard way. My room used to be a "treasure cave" where things were randomly placed and impossible to find when needed. After some painful experiences, I decided to seriously study storage techniques, and once I started researching, it opened up a whole new world.

The most basic principle is: everything in the house needs its own "home." This is easier said than done. First, you need to categorize all items, then decide their storage location based on frequency of use and practicality. Take my sock organization, for example - it's been a huge improvement. My sock drawer used to be a disaster zone, with all sorts of socks mixed together, taking forever to find a matching pair. Now I categorize socks by occasion: black stockings for work in one section, professional sports socks in another, and cotton socks for home in yet another. Within each section, socks are arranged by color, making it easy to grab what I need.

Bookshelf organization is also key. I've divided my books into several zones: professional books, literature and novels, lifestyle books, etc. The most frequently used books are placed on middle shelves within easy reach; less frequently used books go on top or bottom shelves. Each zone has a label, making it easy to locate books at a glance. Important reminder: don't pack books too tightly - leave some space to make them easier to remove.

My jewelry storage is quite unique. I bought a transparent jewelry display stand, like those in department stores, where I can hang necklaces, bracelets, and rings. This not only prevents jewelry from tangling but also lets me see all my accessories at once, making outfit coordination super convenient. For earrings, I use a cork board - I just pin them directly on it and hang it on the wall like artwork, making it both practical and decorative.

Makeup storage requires special attention too. I arrange items according to use order: skincare from cleansers and toners to creams; makeup from primers and foundation to eyeshadows and lipsticks. Each product category is stored in transparent containers with labels indicating the type of products inside. This makes putting on makeup much more organized, and I never miss a step.

Recently, I discovered an amazing storage solution: vacuum compression bags. They're perfect for storing seasonal clothing! Put rarely worn clothes inside, use a vacuum cleaner to remove the air, and suddenly a closet full of winter clothes compresses to just one-third its original thickness, freeing up space for other items. Plus, vacuum compression prevents insects and moisture, and when you need the clothes again, just open the bag and let them air out to restore their original shape.

Kitchen Tips

The kitchen is always the ultimate test of one's organization and tidying abilities. I used to think cooking was just a flurry of activity that left a mess everywhere. Now I've finally understood the secret: the key to keeping a kitchen clean is "clean as you go."

I installed a foldable pot rack on the wall that stays compact when folded but opens up to hang pots when needed. Different-sized pots are hung separately for easy access. Essential cookware like woks and soup pots are placed in the most accessible positions, while specialty cookware can go in corners.

For frequently used utensils like spatulas, spoons, and chopsticks, I bought a multi-functional utensil holder. It can store knives and other tools while taking up minimal counter space, which is perfect.

For food storage, I have my own system. Refrigerated items are arranged by expiration date: items nearing expiry go in the most visible spots as reminders to use them first. Vegetables and fruits are individually packed in preservation bags to prevent cross-contamination. Meat is vacuum-sealed in small portions before freezing, making it easy to thaw just what's needed without waste.

Cleaning Tips

Honestly, I've never been someone who enjoys housework, but that hasn't stopped me from researching various cleaning tricks. Through continuous exploration, I've discovered many time and energy-saving cleaning methods.

The most surprising discovery was using vinegar to clean kettles. Living in Beijing where water is quite hard, thick limescale builds up inside kettles. I tried various cleaners before, but none worked well. Then one day I found this vinegar cleaning method online: pour equal parts white vinegar and water into the kettle, boil it, let it sit for 30 minutes, then rinse several times with clean water. The results were amazing - the kettle's interior looked like new, I could hardly believe it. Now I give my kettle this "spa treatment" every month.

Bathroom cleaning has always been challenging, especially glass shower doors with water stains.
